The Beauty of Your Own Business: Why You Should Bet On Yourself

Nov 17, 2022

With the current economic climate, I hear people asking if it’s still considered a good time to start a business or if it’s better to stay with the security of an employer.  The truth is there’s never going to be a perfect time to become an entrepreneur. Whether you stay with your employer or jump full-time into entrepreneurship, nothing is ever truly guaranteed. So my answer? Why not bet on yourself!

Like anything else in life, you have to take an inspired leap of faith and trust the process as it unfolds. Sure it can be nice to have a superior and be able to leave your worries at the office each night. Not to mention you can learn a lot of valuable skills from an overseer with more experience. However, if you have a desire in your heart to start a business, no amount of money, security, or comfort can silence it…this I know for sure!

If you’re still debating whether to take the leap or not, here are a few of my suggestions…

  1. Start a Side Hustle: You don’t have to jump into the extreme of full-time entrepreneurship right away if you’re unsure. Starting a side hustle is the ideal way to get the best of both worlds. Remaining in your 9-5 while building your dream on the side can buy you time to generate a loyal consumer base as well as provide additional income to put towards growing your business, alleviating the immense pressure you might feel without the fallback of your current job. This will also give you the freedom to discover what you like and don’t like about your launch model and have the time to adjust it as necessary.

  • Build a Savings: If you don’t want to start a side hustle and would rather go directly into full-time entrepreneurship, then use your current paycheck as an investment. Start putting aside a percentage of your current income for your future business. This percentage can be based on your desired deadline and preferred savings for when you want to launch your business. By having money set aside, you’ll feel more confident, comfortable, and equipped when you do choose to take the leap.

  • Be Your Own Boss: One major perk of entrepreneurship is you get to be your own boss— who can ensure your own success and security more than YOU?! You’re the one calling the shots. That means it’s up to you on how much you make, what hours you work, and the team culture you choose to cultivate. So dream big, sky’s the limit! While demanding, the results can be incredibly rewarding! Yes, there’s a lot of hard work required, learning curves to navigate, and most likely some financial mistakes in the mix to get there; however, in the long run, there will be more freedom in every sense of the word. And there is no better feeling than that!

No matter where you are on the entrepreneurial journey, I hope these tips inspire you to believe in your dreams and follow your passion despite outside circumstances. Being courageous enough to bet on yourself and liberate your desires by seeing them through is truly one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. If you would like guidance on solidifying your finances, I’d be happy to go over your credit reports, debt, and finances with you so you can feel your most empowered in taking the leap! Sign up here for my Side Hustle Webinar Until then, wishing you all the best as you contemplate this new exciting chapter in life!
